User:David Schaich/T picket report
From SP Boston
On Thursday 5 October, the MBTA board held a meeting to consider a massive fare increase unaccompanied by any service increase. Several groups advertised a picket to take place during the meeting from 1:00 to 2:00.
I was able to get to the vicinity of the MBTA building around 1, but had trouble finding the picket. I figured I could look for likely protesters and follow them to the site, but that only led me to the World Can't Wait protest on the Common. There were a couple hundred people there (not clear how many were just passing by and how many were actually there for the rally). I listened to a minute or two of the current speech, but after I heard "corporations" for the tenth time (it didn't take that long!) I returned to my search for the T picket.
Didn't find it. I did run into Matt and a few other people, also looking for it. Chris was also around, though I didn't run into him. Eventually, about 20-25 minutes after I first arrived, I had to head back to BU and Matt and the others decided to pass through security and head into the board meeting itself. I've heard nothing about what happened inside, so I'm guessing not much did. My impression is this action was a dud.
