February 2008 Local Meeting

The Socialist Party of Boston met at noon on Sunday, 24 February 2008 in the Lucy Parsons Center. We discussed the 2008 State Convention, plans for International Women's Day (8 March), the presidential campaign, and labor issues at the Harvest Co-op. - Introductions and agenda approval
- The meeting was attended by Matt A., Chris P., David S., and Marissa, a freelance grad student journalist from Emerson.
- Initiatives from the SP-Mass State Convention
- We endorsed the National Assembly to End the Iraq War and Occupation this summer, and Matt took the lead as our main contact with them.
- Other upcoming events and actions
- Chris will look into holding the fundraising concert at Welfare Records in Haverville.
- We decided we didn't have the capacity to plan an IWD event at such a late date.
- Matt discussed the labor situation at the Harvest at length, Marissa expressed interest in writing an article on it.
- We planned to carpool to the regional meeting in western Mass at the end of March.
- Presidential campaign
- David will contact the Secretary of the Commonwealth to get the forms necessary to run a write-in or sticker campaign.
- Matt will contact the Secretary of the Commonwealth to get the list of registered socialists in Massachusetts.
- Chris and David arranged tabling at an antiwar fundraiser in Providence, RI on 1 March
- Chris will manage the effort to get on the ballot in Rhode Island; Marissa was interested in writing an article on that as well.
- Todd Vachon is running for Congress in Connecticut, and will need help collecting signatures to get on the ballot.
